This series offers audiences an early look at new plays and a unique glimpse into the creative process of playwriting, while also giving local creatives the opportunity to bring these stories to life.
All individual tickets, as well as ticket packages*, will be available on a Pay-What-You-Choose basis. Doors open at 6:00PM, with food and drink permitted inside. Performances begin at 7:00PM. Secure your ticket today!

Different Words for Happiness

In her playwriting debut, Everyman Theatre Resident Company member Katie Kleiger presents a fresh take on what it means to confront one’s past and redefine personal happiness. When a late-night call arrives from an ex, Ava’s world is thrust into emotional turmoil. As Ava attempts to regain control and confront the ghosts of her past, she meets Eleanor, a middle-aged doctor facing a midlife crisis and living a life of unfulfilled dreams. Ava and Eleanor’s lives become inexorably intertwined as they grapple with blame, forgiveness, and what types of happiness they allow themselves to feel.

This new play from Alexandria, VA-based playwright and educator KJ Moran Velz, is set in 1968 Boston and follows Jo Cruz, a lesbian taxi driver from Puerto Rico, who starts giving rides to Mary O’Sullivan, a Catholic school teacher with a boyfriend and an overbearing, conservative Irish mother. Connected through a shared sense of loneliness and smitten attraction, Jo and Mary fall into a deep friendship before taking a road trip that will change both their lives.

The Regular

An acclaimed playwright from central Maryland and Bowie State professor, Bob Bartlett, brings his creative writing style to Everyman with this story of an Army Vet rebuilding a life out on the open road. Sawyer, who is severely injured in the Iraq War, travels across the country writing about diners—the great American diner—until her trusty RV breaks down in front of one. Follow the journey as Sawyer finds her way home with her RV, her trusty dogs, and some new hippie friends she makes along the way.

A New Play
by Lady Dane Figueroa Edidi
Monday, April 6
Everyman Theatre will debut a new work from Baltimore’s own playwright, actress, author, and choreographer Lady Dane Figueroa Edidi, who uses her art to explore themes of identity, spirituality, history, and social justice. Edidi is the first trans woman of color nominated for a 2016 Helen Hayes Award for choreography, playwriting, and acting, and her work often centers Black and trans women, and challenges conventional narratives.
