BALTIMORE, MD (November 13, 2025)
Everyman Theatre is excited to announce the return of its annual holiday tradition of a thriller onstage with a gripping new production of the iconic play and film Gaslight. Running November 30, 2025, through January 4, 2026, this psychological thriller promises to be the perfect antidote to holiday cheer – plunging audiences into a dark, suspenseful world where nothing is as it seems. This new adaptation by Johnna Wright and Patty Jamieson, titled Deceived, is based on Patrick Hamilton’s classic play Gas Light – the 1938 thriller set in 1880s London, which inspired the Academy Award-winning film of the same name. For the play at Everyman Theatre, Founder and Artistic Director Vincent M. Lancisi directs this tension-filled production that features the magnetic cast of Resident Company Members Deborah Hazlett (POTUS, A Midsummer Night’s Dream) as Elizabeth, Katie Kleiger (POTUS, Crumbs from the Table of Joy) as Bella, and Zack Powell (The Mystery of Irma Vep, Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? ) as Jack, as well as Everyman newcomer Em Whitworth as Nancy.
Alongside Lancisi, the design team consists of Resident Company Members Daniel Ettinger (August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson) as Scenic Designer; David Burdick (Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None) as Costume Designer; and Harold F. Burgess II (Crumbs from the Table of Joy) as Lighting Designer; as well as Sun Hee Kil (Art, Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None)as Sound Designer. The creative team also includes Resident Company Members Gary Logan for Dialects; Lewis Shaw (The Mystery of Irma Vep: A Penny Dreadful) for Fights and Intimacy; Robyn Quick for Dramaturgy; and Cat Wallis (The Mystery of Irma Vep: A Penny Dreadful) leading the Stage Management team.
“Our holiday show has become a beloved tradition, and this new adaptation of Gaslight delivers on every level. It’s a masterfully written psychological thriller filled with suspense that will have our audiences questioning everything until the very last moment,” says Lancisi. “From the staging to the costumes to this phenomenal cast, this adaptation shines a new light on a classic story of manipulation, and we are excited to share Bella’s journey of empowerment in this new version of the story.”
Set in a London townhouse, Deceived centers on Bella Manningham, a young wife who believes she is losing her grip on reality. The gaslights in her home are mysteriously dim, objects disappear, and strange sounds echo in the night – all while her loving husband, Jack, expresses growing concern for her sanity. This compelling re-imagining, empowers Bella to find the strength and cunning to save herself, offering a fresh, modern perspective. Audiences can expect a night of edge-of-your-seat suspense, dark secrets, and dramatic reveals, making it an unforgettable addition to Baltimore’s holiday entertainment calendar.
