Everyman Theatre’s professional training program provides theatre artists with rigorous training that engages deeply with craft and process. Our classes are taught by Everyman resident company members and staff as well as local professional theatre artists who engage students to unlock their imagination and cultivate skills. Everyman is committed to expanding the hearts and minds of our students through the amplification of empathy by seeing ourselves in the stories of others through the art created in the classroom, and beyond.
Fall Classes
An Improv Workshop for Uncertain Times

Description:
Improv isn’t about being funny—it’s about being present. This three-hour beginner session uses core improv principles like “Yes, and,” deep listening, and collaboration to build compassion, openness, and resilience. Through playful, low-pressure exercises, participants learn to respond instead of react, support instead of control, and stay curious instead of defensive. The skills transfer directly to everyday life—relationships, work, creativity, and leadership. You’ll leave feeling energized and connected. No experience required—just a willingness to show up and say yes.
Teaching Artist:
Bruce Randolph Nelson harnesses decades of experience and presence to bring depth and nuance to each Everyman season. Creating and Performing Character
Teacher: Nestor Serrano
Time: Mondays from 7:00pm – 9:00pm

Description:
This class invites students to identify, explore, and integrate the fundamental tools necessary for creating authentic characters and performing them onstage. Activate the body, exercise the voice, analyze text, engage the imagination, and increase your focus. This class culminates in sharing monologues with your peers. Memorization is expected.
Teaching Artist:
Nestor Serrano has been an actor for over 50 years beginning in NYC. From off-off Broadway to Broadway to the Los Angeles Theater Center and the West End in London. He has directed workshops at the Westside Cafe, Circle in the Square as well as the Public Theater. Working independently as a private coach for nearly twenty years, Nestor has found great satisfaction by working to help others find their path. His work on television and feature films is extensive having performed in over sixty films and hundreds of TV shows. Nestor is extremely proud to be a part of The Everyman Theater.

This course illuminates the process of performing with others onstage. Strengthen the ability to listen and respond authentically in performance, connect to impulse, and pursue necessary objectives resulting in conflict. This class culminates in a performance of scenes for an established professional for feedback. Memorization and rehearsing outside of class time are expected.

Teaching Artist:
Julia has worked in the area as an actor, teacher, and director for the last 15 years. Her work as an actor includes: Center Stage: As You Like It (Le Beau/Audrey), Pride and Prejudice (Mrs. Gardiner); Everyman Theatre: Blithe Spirit (Edith), The Beaux Stratagem (The Country Girl/The Fat Lady), Our Town (Mrs. Soames); Shakespeare Theatre Company: Henry IV Part 1 and 2 (Lady Northumberland/Ensemble); Taffety Punk: Phaeton (Clymene), Pericles (Dionyza), Romeo and Juliet (Paris); Profile Theatre: A Lesson From Aloes (Gladys); International Theatre/Vienna: Children of Lesser God (Sarah). Film/TV- Leverage (TNT); Unsolved Mysteries (Fox TV); Anoosh of the Airways (Front Pocket Films). Her work as a fight choreographer includes: Single Carrot: Peter Pan, Year of the Rooster and A Beginners Guide to Deicide; Loyola University: Macbeth, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, Baal, The Odyssey and Oedipus and Peter Pan; assistant fight choreographer at Everyman Theatre: The Beaux Stratagem.
Some of her directing credits include Loyola University; The Heidi Chronicles, and Carver Center for Arts and Technology; Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Line and Romeo and Juliet.
Julia has worked as a Theatre instructor at Loyola University, University of Baltimore and Carver Center for Arts and Technology.
REGISTRATION PROCESS
You will complete registration information upon purchasing the class. Once a class is purchased, Everyman Theatre’s Education Team will reach out with a welcome email at least one week before the class starts with any additional information you may need.
All class sales are FINAL SALE: This means there will be no refunds, unless one of the following applies:
Withdrawal from a class: While we know that plans shift, we strive to provide exceptional service and programming for all students. This includes attendance for ensemble building. If you must withdraw, you will receive a credit that can be used towards any class in our current season. Class credits expire on June 30th, of any given season. Be sure to use them before this date.
*Should any student be asked to withdraw from class or any program, our Director of Education will issue a refund at their discretion and contingent of the reason for removal.
Scholarship Recipients: Should you miss more than 3-class sessions during any program offering your scholarship is awarded for, you will be removed from programming with no refund or class credit.
Cancelations: Should Everyman cancel a class for any reason, students will receive a full refund.
PAYMENT PLANS:
Some classes have an option for payment plans. We will reserve your spot in the class of your selecting with a non-refundable deposit equal to 25% of tuition. Full payment is required prior to the start of the first class, or your spot in the class will be forfeited.
*Payment plans are only available for multi-week classes.
In need of scholarship support?
We encourage you to apply for a need-based scholarship by completing this FORM. Our need-based Creative Journey scholarship awards range to cover a portion of the tuition. While funding is limited, we work hard to accept as many students as possible throughout the year. Scholarship Applications can be submitted on a rolling basis.
