THE MOUNTAINTOP
Award-winning modern masterpiece
Memphis-native Katori Hall, renowned for her profound work centering on Black voices and experiences, reimagines the moments leading up to Dr. Martin Luther King’s last night and presents him in a way that strips away the mythology and reveals the vulnerable man beneath. Set entirely over one evening on the eve of King’s assassination, the same night he delivered his unforgettable speech, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop,” we find King engaging in a soul‑baring conversation with a mysterious maid as he reflects on the enormous responsibility of his life, legacy, and work yet to be done – just hours before his tragic fate.

Midday Matinee
When possible, the Theatre will offer an extra weekday midday matinee at 12 PM to accommodate student groups as well as patrons who enjoy coming for an extended lunch break! (These will be in addition to Everyman’s existing education-based high-school performances.) This shift to earlier start times is designed to offer more opportunities for patrons to enjoy live theatre with colleagues, social clubs, friends, family, or student groups during the week.
